Throughout my career I have specialised in facilitating dialogue across cultural, disciplinary and national boundaries. At the Economic and Social Research Council I was the UK’s National Representative to the Joint Programming Initiative for Urban Europe, and the ESRC lead delivering the Newton Fund.
Previous Experience
Deputy Director for UKRI China
While Deputy Director for UKRI China (previously RCUK China), I led negotiations with Chinese partners to deliver programmes totalling £80 million. I advised UK universities and academics on their engagement with China, brokered partnerships, and solved problems that emerged during collaboration. As UKRI’s representative in China I worked closely with colleagues across the British Embassy to coordinate science diplomacy and policy efforts.
Director of Research for University of Nottingham Ningbo China
As Director of Research for University of Nottingham Ningbo China I coordinated a new university research strategy, restructured research and knowledge exchange support services across the institution and introduced a major new IT platform to manage research administration.

With over a decade of experience in research strategy, policy, and operations leadership, I have had the privilege of working with prestigious universities and research institutions in the UK, Europe, and China. I’m now excited to bring my expertise back to the UK. I build on my experience in national funding agencies, science diplomacy, international partnerships and leadership of university research services to help individuals, teams and institutions to build capacity and to understand and collaborate effectively with China, developing informed strategies to enable sustainable and secure partnerships.
